Stephen Hall, succeeded Malcolm Smith as Executive Director of Adult & Teen Challenge WA in 2020, part of a global network of Christian Rehabs intended to provide hope in reach to people struggling with addictions.
As newlywed 21-year olds, Steve and his wife Marg agreed to take on a Children’s Home that consisted of eight very hurting and emotionally damaged teenagers. It was a tough calling for a young married couple, which also helped create a deep bond in their marriage and a resilience in ministry that continues unabated to this day. It was thus clear very early on that God had a specific role for them in ministering to the broken.
Steve then joined Youth for Christ in Perth, and was assigned to develop a strategic plan to reach out to high school students. He later served with Perth City Mission, speaking into the lives of thousands of students throughout the metro area. He developed a programme called SCIP (School and Community Involvement Program) in response to the increasing needs of the students. The programme revolved around forming a community network involving service groups from the local community, including the Church, regularly visiting schools for follow-up and organising expo days to engage the families. It was a testimony of what happens when the Church responds to a need and becomes a relevant, powerful voice in the public sphere
In 1993, he was appointed as Community Pastor for The Kalamunda Church of Christ. He continued to help develop several community initiatives and was the chaplain to the local High Schools. Later the Kelmscott Church of Christ invited him to be their Youth Pastor. The work at Kelmscott also continued to take him into the local community, working closely with the schools in that area.
Steve served as The Kalamunda Church of Christ’s Senior Pastor from 1999-2020 where he continued to expand his vision for the church: to be within the community proclaiming the Word of God and providing the required support whenever possible to the community, uniting the local churches and developing a ministry to families.
Steve is on the Executive Committee for the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce, having been awarded Life Membership in 2015 for his years of commitment to the community.
He is also an ordained minister with the Australian Christian Churches.
Steve is happily married to Marg since 1981, and together they have four adult children and five grandchildren
As the Executive Director of Adult & Teen Challenge, he says that his goal is to take this amazing organisation to the next level and increase its effectiveness in putting hope in reach for the restoration and transformation of many more lives.
